'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the thrilling dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative strike from outside the box, and the defender quickly hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an extraordinary comeback given the team had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the latter period. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win secured a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's volley from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they understand how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and focus just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he departed Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, excelling for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

His single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "This turned out quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I believed I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called player transport, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself a teammate, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to spend time with the lads but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
